Infinity Accent

This chair is an exploration of the technical, formal, aesthetic, and expressive possibilities of forming metal through a process that relies entirely on handwork and which demands designing and making in rich interaction with the material. It’s about making a piece of furniture with as few tools and materials as possible for challenging and testing the notion that a lack of infrastructure and resources, combined with an intense self-training of a handicraft skill, could generate new techniques and possibilities for me as a craftsman.

There is no welding involved in the making of the ∞ chair. Only a few basic and inexpensive hand tools, heat, and lots of handiwork and patience were used to form and join the piece. This chair is an exercise for training resourcefulness through self-imposed limitations and scarcity, in an attempt to make something out of very little. It’s a statement in favor of simple ideas and pure handiwork, in opposition to over the top technologization, gear dependence, and the abuse of resources.
