In cojunction with paintings on view by Alex Leav, Salon 21 will feature seven functional lamps by Yuxing Zhang from her “Fantastic Rock” and “Cut-Out” series. Drawing inspiration from the esteemed Chinese Scholar Rock (Gongshi), the “Fantastic Rocks” series captures the essence of these revered stones, which symbolize a universe in miniature for introspective contemplation. These pieces embrace Taoist reverence for the imperfect, with ceramics meticulously crafted to mirror nature’s spontaneous quirks. Each lamp in the "Cut-Out" series features intricately handcrafted designs that are reminiscent of Matisse's dynamic use of color and form. Column Chairs by Micah Rosenblatt will also be part of the joint design exhibition. The Column Chair brings a striking architectural silhouette to any space. Solid steel rods transition into scrolls at the top of the chair, evoking classic ionic columns. The flared seat is comfortable while maintaining a pleasing sense of scale. The chair is sealed with a natural non-toxic furniture wax that preserves the luster of the raw steel.
